In the K-Mg formulas, the aspartates, are mineral salts of aspartic acid. The active mineral transporter-the negative ion of aspartic acid-delivers its associated mineral to the inner portion of the double-walled cellular membrane. Through potassium-magnesium aspartate, potassium and magnesium mineral ions are trasported to the inner portion of the cells of the heart, arteries, and the liver. At these locations, they activate specific enzymes, which, in turn, produce energy-rich adenosinetriphosphate (ATP), essential in providing increased energy and oxygen to the blood. This action within the heart muscle becomes paramount in overcomingthe risk of cardiac necrosis (destruction of heart tissue), coronary thrombosis (intravascular formation of a clot), arteriosclerosis (thickening of the arteries); and sudden cardiac arrest.
In addition, potassium-magnesium aspartate promotes the detoxification of the liver by removing ammonia, thus helping in the prevention of liver failure. Furthermore, by reducing tension in the lungs through the conversion of carbon dioxide into urea, which is then excreted, potassium-magnesium aspartate hs been shown to help individuals in overcoming asthmatic attacks.
